WELLINGTON BOOTS
Wellington boots take their name from the first Duke of Wellington. The duke had a special pair designed for him to suit the conditions of his campaigns through Spain and Belgium. No doubt the changes in climate and, in, particular the muddy Belgian fields prompted his desire for tougher footwear . The original boots reached as far as the knee and were impregnated with waterproofing materials, probably with a rubber base. They were equally suited to walking and to riding.

Surf Safe!

What should you know about the internet? There are tons of fun and educational things for you to do on the Internet. There are also a lot of people and web sites, so you need to be careful about where you do your surfing. Here are some rules to remember:

1. Do not give out any personal information such as address, telephone, the location of your school, or the work address / telephone number of your parents, without permission from your parents. It is ok to send this information to Harbie because you know who he is, but if you still want to check with your parents, that's ok.

2. Be a good online citizen and do not do anything that hurts others feelings or is against the law. Always treat others on the Internet the way you want to be treated. Please keep this in mind when sending Harbie a letter to be posted on his letter page.

3. Do not respond in any way to messages or information that are mean or make you feel uncomfortable. Ignore the sender and end all communication. It is not your fault if you get a message like that and if you do, tell your parents right away so that they can contact the service provider.

4. Do not click on any links contained in e-mails from anyone you donšt know. Such links could lead to inappropriate web sites.

5. Do not enter contests without asking your parents first.

6. Always check with your parents before downloading any programs to your computer.

7. Never send anyone a photograph of yourself without first checking with your parents that this is all right.

8. Never agree to meet with someone you have "met" online without permission from your parents. If your parents agree to the meeting, make sure that it is in a public place and take your Mum or Dad with you.

9. Do not give out your Internet passwords to anyone (even best friends), other than your parents.

10. Talk with your parents so that you can set up rules for going online. Decide with your parents when you can be online, how long you can be online, and appropriate areas for you to visit. Do not access other areas or break these rules without their permission. If you agree to these ground rules with your parents, there is no reason for you to get into trouble.

11. Follow these rules, they are not there to stop you having fun, they are there to make sure you are safe.

12. Most of all, have fun! If you remember these simple rules, you will always be safe online.
