The vikings are invading again! But if you like that sort of thing, grab your longboats and your warrior's helmet (an upside down cooking sieve will do) and enter a competition to visit the vikings over the bank holiday weekend at Rockingham Castle.

All you have to do is to complete my special wordsearch to try to win one of five sets of family tickets to the event for two adults and two children (each prize worth £25.50) which is being offered by Rockingham Castle as Mail competition prizes.

On Sunday, August 26, and Bank Holiday Monday 27, The Vikings of Middle England historical re-enactment group will be demonstrating what life was like 1,000 years ago when the blonde warriors raided the Dark Age kingdom of Mercia…

Viking raiders and traders were flooding the country at this time, travelling the river networks in their wooden longboats, looting, pillaging… and settling down nicely.

They would probably have reached Rockingham Castle via the River Welland.. can you imagine seeing a longboat drifting through Welland Park!?

As well as giving visitors the chance to see viking soldiers fighting, the group will demonstrate the more peaceful side of life on a settlement camp.

Visitors will be able to stroll among the tents and see weapons being forged from melted metal, people woodworking and healing the sick, or making coins.

To enter the competition you will have to complete the Viking word search, click on the link below.
